Nottinghamshire Police Officers have been helping us at Crocodile House by acting out scenarios based on substance misuse. This very important social issue will be one of the specialist areas covered by our new Health and Social Care image library – www.crocstockimages.com. The help and advice the police have given and the photographs produced from this encounter will mean we will able to provide a complete set of images reflecting the many issues and outcomes associated with substance misuse today.

New Year… New Strategy… New Media!

Crocodile House has been commissioned to help Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust with informing staff, service users and the public about the implementation of its new strategy. To do this we are intending to provide a library of images and a series of advert style videos for use at conferences, shows and exhibitions as well as online. Video will be a new media for Crocodile House to work with but we are very excited about the ideas we are generating already and look forward to applying out photographic and design skills to the project.

The project theme is ‘Belonging’ and will focus on the specialist work to be delivered by the Trust with the new strategy in place. To do this we will follow several members of staff and service users highlighting the specialist skills delivered and the positive effects this has on those that receive it.

We will be reporting here throughout the year as to the progress of the project and forthcoming events.

Spreading the message

So successful was the Stamp Out Stigma display created by Crocodile House that the Substance Misuse Service commissioned a portable version so they could take their message out on the road.

They are planning to visit schools, libraries and other community venues to increase awareness of how stigma can be challenged and reduced in mental health.

First Class Display

The Substance Misuse Service recently won first prize for their ‘Stamp Out Stigma’ display.

Their campaign was one of over sixty displays on show at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust AGM held at the East Midlands Conference Centre on 25th September.

The display, devised and built by Crocodile House, found a fun way to get a serious message across with a funfair theme. Visitors who successfully stamped and rang the bell were rewarded with a peek into the mysterious black box which showed the solution to stamping out stigma. Flashing lights and fairground music added to the whole effect.

The team are now taking the display on the road to spread the Stamp Out Stigma message.

Staff and clients of The John Storer Clinic, part of the Substance Misuse Service at Notts Healthcare NHS Trust, wanted to brighten up the dull stairwell leading to the clinic.

Having created the artwork we wanted something a bit different to print on so we used Digimura wallpaper which meant that we were able to get the image flat to the wall giving the illusion of real windows when going up or down the stairs.

We used Contra Vision for the office window graphic providing some privacy for staff but allowing them to see visitors arriving up the stairs.

Leicester Bach Choir have just launched their new website which features photographs taken by Crocodile House at rehearsals last December.

We were there to take a set of promotional photographs which could be used for various publicity purposes and which also gave members of the choir an opportunity to have images for themselves.

The latest edition of Positive, the monthly magazine produced by Nottinghamshire Healthcare (NHS) Trust, is a Learning Disability Directorate special and contains numerous images taken by Crocodile House. Inside there is our coverage of the Midland Games, the ‘Who Decides Event’ and the Short Breaks Health Team carers event. The cover features our images from last years Thisability exhibition.

Windows of Opportunity

Nottingham City Council are looking at ways to transform empty retail units in the City into something more than a blank window.

One of the initiatives is to give local creative businesses and individuals an opprtunity to display their work in the empty units.

It’s a great opportunity to get your work showcased to a wide audience and Crocodile House has applied to the scheme to display the ‘Recognition’ anti-stigma exhibition which it completed for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust last year.
