Accessible Training Resources

Training resources form a key part of our work here at Crocodile House. Our experience and knowledge of subject matter and understanding of the end users needs, enable us to continually deliver successful training packages across a variety of health and social care settings. The most successful to date is the React To series of training resources specifically designed for care home staff. It has since been taken up by NHS England and delivered across the UK and is now being translated for use in several European countries.

All the information for the React To series of training resources is provided by NHS healthcare professionals from evidence based practice and is in keeping with current national guidelines. The React To resources not only pooled our skills in film making, design and photography, but also in script writing and project management. Our combined creative skills allowed us to interpret and present complex information in an logical and accessible way.

React To Red, being the original commission, was designed as a physical pack containing a booklet, DVD and various printed resources. As this pack became so successful at preventing pressure ulcers in elderly residents, more React To commissions have followed. In order to deliver these resources as cost effectively and to as wide an audience as possible, Crocodile House created so that all these resources could be made easily available to the care home sector.

All About Me

Award Winning Service User Involvement All About Me is a mental health recovery package specifically design for Deaf people. It won the gold award at the National Service User Awards 2016 for service user involvement. Through staff and service user involvement we identified how the resource should be designed to make it as inclusive as possible. This included creating a set of unique communication symbols, many of which incorporated British Sign Language gestures. Part of the success of the project was designing the pack to encourage staff and service users to sit and work together. We also designed an accompanying staff guidance booklet helping them enable service users to create their own recovery pathways.  To find out more about the project from ‘Mental Health Today’ click here. Inclusive Communication

Working with speech and language therapists and service users, we designed an inclusive communication pack for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We had to developed designs that would help healthcare professionals understand the speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) of their service users. It also contained inclusive communication tools enabling doctors to communicate symptoms to patients with SLCN. To view/access PDFs of the complete inclusive communication pack click here. Because of our specialism in health and social care, many of our projects involve incorporating inclusive communication of some kind. But we also try to be inclusive in the way we work and often encourage service user involvement in the creative process. One of the best parts of our work is spending time with service users - over the years they have taught us much about what good communication looks like.

Brand Development

Many of our projects require a working knowledge of very specific sectors within health and social care and their individual cultures. Our experience has enabled us to deliver complex information successfully and our designs have picked up a few awards along the way! We enhance existing brands with strong creative designs, consolidate strategies to give them more punch and bring memorable identities to new organisations.

One of our true strengths is working within an existing brand in a creative way, bringing a fresh approach to delivering information. This has been particularly important when working with NHS England and various NHS Trusts around the country. Each having their own identity and style of information delivery yet requiring a campaign to stand out and be different.

Accessible Information

Making information accessible requires knowledge of who the information is for and of course an understanding of the information itself. With our experience and creative approach we produce dynamic concepts that successfully delivery complex information.

We are particularly good at breaking down complex information and identifying its key components. By doing this we can tailor the design and its application to specific audiences making it more accessible and effective. The results are creative designs that both engage and inform.

“Nottinghamshire Healthcare has used Crocodile House on a number of projects over the years. Their creativity and ability to interpret a brief make them easy to work with. They also have a special empathy with service users, an understanding of our values and priorities and a can do attitude; all of which results in outstanding work. ”

Complete Design Service

Multiple Applications

Many projects require taking design concepts through multiple applications. This requires a good knowledge of the processes involved, having well established relationships with third party providers and the ability to communicate at an appropriate level with everyone involved. We have created designs for apps, designed and built bespoke interactive displays, created uplifting art pieces for wall spaces and produced animated graphics for film. We apply our creativity to the most appropriate applications to deliver your project successfully.

Proactive Approach

There are also times when a one off project develops through its success into a much bigger campaign. Seeing potential developments in a project allows us to build adaptable design concepts that will work successfully across multiple platforms. We have a proactive approach to projects - we identify potential applications and developments, show ways of being more cost effective, offer free advice and involve clients and service users in the creative process.

We also work with our clients to get the most impact from their budgets. Without compromising on creativity or quality, we aim to reach as many people as possible in the most cost effective way.

To help our clients achieve their project goals we allow nothing to be ‘lost in translation’ by ensuring our clients always speak directly to the designer.
